Addiction to approval
What we are seeking is not wrong…where we are seeking it from is. Jesus wants to break our addiction to approval from others so that we can abide in His adoration of us.
It’s the difference between striving and stilling.
He not only wants the first fruits of our successes, He wants the first fruits of our failures. The next time you start to doubt yourself, instead of turning to others to build you up…go to Jesus for assurance and expect an answer.
It may not come right away.
Wait.
The responses of others feel good in the moment because they immediately treat our symptoms of insecurity...but they don’t last. His words are worth waiting for because they treat the root cause behind the insecurity itself.
Jesus does not tolerate coping; He settles for nothing less than healing.
The question is: Do you want to be healed?
